why do we get in relationships?
is it like the mcdonald's commercials
everyone hates, when the burger
is grand and plump and fluffy
but when you buy it
it's flattened, grey and sprinkled with human hair
romance isn't real
not how it's pumped into you
in songs and books and knowing looks
from old people.
after the dust settles you think
maybe i could've put that effort
into feeding hungry kids
or a woman's shelter or making the world's
tallest macaroni tower
anything more worthwhile
anything better than chasing fantasies
